The GIS pathway curriculum is designed with a focus on balancing both geographic information science and cutting-edge geospatial technologies. By following the pathway program curriculum, you will gain a solid understanding of geographic principles, develop technical skills using GIS software, and enhance your problem-solving capabilities through learning various applications of GIS, leading to a smooth transition through our highly reputable GIS graduate programs with the goal of earning a master’s degree during your fifth year at Redlands.
What is the 4+1 MS GIS and MGIS pathway?
Students majoring in computer science may apply to the Graduate GIS program (Geographic Information Systems) to pursue a master’s degree concurrently with the computer science bachelor’s degree.
As part of the 4+1 accelerated pathway program, computer science students will be allowed to double-count two courses for the Master of Science GIS. This opportunity is available to students earning either the B.S. or B.A. Computer Science degree.
The Master of Science in Geographic Information Systems (MS GIS) will provide computer science students an opportunity to gain specialized knowledge of analysis, critical theoretical foundations, and cutting-edge geospatial technologies for careers in the high-growth, GIS-related fields, with connections to the world’s leading GIS company, Esri.
The Master of Geographic Information Systems (MGIS) degree is an accelerated program consisting of eight months of coursework and the undertaking of an internship.
Undergraduate computer science students are eligible to apply to these programs once they reach junior or senior status. Applications are available from GIS Graduate Admissions.
