The San Francisco Theological Seminary (SFTS) Library in Geneva Hall on the Marin campus is a branch of the Graduate Theological Union library, which is the main library serving all the member seminaries and institutes of the GTU. The mission of the GTU Library is to provide superior quality resources and services for the professional and academic programs of GTU member schools, affiliates, and centers. The Library supports student and faculty research, promotes information literacy, provides a user-friendly environment for teaching and learning, and utilizes new technologies in support of its mission. Housing approximately 100,000 volumes, the SFTS branch library provides resources and information primarily to students, faculty, and staff on the Marin campus. With a library card, a user may request resources from the GTU Library, which is among the largest theological libraries in the United States and is distinguished as being ecumenically one of the most diversified. GRACE, the online public access catalog, is the place to go to find what’s on the GTU and SFTS library shelves – physical books, journals, DVDs, CDs and more. Acquisitions are coordinated with the UC Berkeley and Stanford libraries, with reciprocal borrowing privileges for faculty and students of all three institutions.
Interested in visiting the GTU or SFTS libraries? GTU and SFTS library privileges are available for a fee to SFTS graduates and Bay Area residents. SFTS Alumni are invited to register for extended, free access to the ATLA database. The GTU and SFTS libraries do not provide direct loan by mail. Users who live outside the Bay Area may ask their local library to submit an interlibrary loan request for materials from the GTU and SFTS libraries. All requests for SFTS library materials from out of state should be addressed to the Interlibrary Loan Department of the GTU Library.
