Student Health Insurance Plan

Available for CAS Undergraduate Students Only

Attention: CAS Undergraduate Students who are enrolled in nine or more credits

You must have health insurance coverage that provides access to local health care and helps minimize the financial burden an accident, injury, or illness creates. You will be automatically enrolled in the “Student Health Insurance Plan” every academic year unless you submit a waiver through Academic Health Plans (AHP Care) by the deadline each year and submit documentation that you have existing adequate coverage. 

The waiver period the 25-26 academic year is June 10, 2025 - September 15, 2025.

Action Required

  • Option #1 - Waive/Opt-out of health insurance coverage (i.e., you already have health insurance through your parent/guardian. military, or on your own.)
  • Option #2 - Do nothing. You will automatically be enrolled in the AHP Care Health Care Plan. A charge of $719 will be applied to your student account in the Fall. A charge of $1,104 will be applied to your student account in the Spring. The total amount is $1,823.

 

Option #1 - Steps to Waive/Opt-out of University Insurance Coverage

  1. Login to AHPCare26
    • A. New students check your email - You will receive an initial email from AHP Care (noreply@ahpcare.com). New students will need to click on this link to login to the portal for the first time. 
    • B. Returning students – You will have the same login information as previous years. Login at AHPCare26
  1. Upload Proof of Health Insurance - Once logged in, you must upload your proof of health insurance that complies with the Affordable Care Act, meets State of California requirements (short-term medical plans and travel insurance do not qualify), and the University's deductible requirements
    • A. The following insurance requirements must be met:
      • The plan must be active for the entire policy year.
      • The plan must be ACA compliant.
      • No out of state Medicaid or HMO plans.
      • No deductible over $6000.
    • B. Medi-Cal - Some students may qualify for health insurance coverage through Medi-Cal which meets the University’s waiver requirements. Fall 2025 waivers are valid through August 9, 2026. If approved, you won’t need to reapply until the 2026–2027 academic year (waivers open June 2026).

Students who didn’t waive in the fall can submit for spring/summer in January 2026—only if they now have qualifying coverage or were away in the fall.

 

Option #2 - Students Who Want to Enroll in the University Health Insurance Plan

Students who wish to be enrolled in the University Health Insurance Plan (i.e., choose not to waive/opt-out) will be automatically enrolled if they do nothing by the deadline.  The University has partnered with AHP Care to secure a student health insurance plan with Wellfleet. The PPO network plan is with Cigna.  The annual coverage cost is $1,823. Coverage begins on August 10, 2025, and ends on August 9, 2026.  Full details of the plan can be found here.

Highlights of the plan include the following:

  • Compliance with the state and federal laws
  • Annual deductibles: $250 in and out of network combined
  • In-Network physician office visit $20 Copay, then 100% Coverage
  • Prescription drug coverage based on four tiers
  • Behavioral Health Hotline and Telemedicine services included
