During Climate Action Week (March 18-22), various events will be hosted on campus to encourage the community to think critically and actively participate in climate change dialogue and action. The Climate Teach-In on March 21 features 5-minute talks by U of R faculty, staff, and community member speakers divided into thematic panels. Speakers represent diverse academic disciplines and fields of work and contribute unique perspectives on many aspects of climate change science, impacts, solutions, experiences, and narratives.

Lydia Sohn
Lydia Sohn is a writer and Senior Pastor at Walnut United Methodist Church. A Yale Divinity School graduate and Marquand Scholar, she lives in Claremont, CA, with her husband and two young children. Her work has appeared in The Atlantic, The Christian Century, and Medium. Her 2018 essay, "What do 90-Somethings Regret Most?", reached over 700K readers. Her book, Here: A Spirituality of Staying in a Culture of Leaving, will be published in 2025 by Convergent Books.

Dr. Hillary Jenkins
Dr. Hillary Jenkins is a Paleoclimatologist and Professor of Environmental Studies at the University of Redlands where she teaches courses in Climate Science, Disasters, Geology, Oceanography, and Hydrology, among other topics. Her research investigates tree ring records of extreme drought, air pollution and forest ecosystem growth, and hydrologic flux and groundwater storage in montane meadow ecosystems.

Jill Jenson
Jill Jensen teaches courses on the history of capitalism, ethics, workers in the global economy, and innovation and new technologies in business. She is the editor of "Women and Social Movements, Development in the Global South, 1919-2019," a curated database with ProQuest/ Alexander Street Press that looks at women's economic participation worldwide.

Bryan Medina
Bryan Medina is an Inland Empire Community Organizer with TreePeople, where he engages and supports community members to rally around climate resilience in one of the most environmentally impacted regions in the country. As a community organizer, he has driven volunteer engagement for community tree plantings, tree giveaways, and town hall meetings on the importance of equitable access to green spaces and mental wellness. He holds a B.A. in English from the University of California, Riverside, and enjoys keeping saltwater and freshwater aquariums in his spare time.
