About Dr. Justin Rose

Dr. Justin Rose joined the University of Redlands in July 2023 as Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences.  As dean, Dr. Rose will partner with leaders across campus to identify and create strategies and interventions to increase enrollment and retention.  He will also work alongside faculty and staff to address challenges associated with changing student demographics as the higher education landscape continues to change rapidly.

Prior to joining the University of Redlands, Dr. Rose served as the Dean for Faculty Recruitment, Development, and Diversity and Chair of the Department of Politics and Law at Rhodes College in Tennessee.  He also worked with the Vice President for Strategic Initiatives on the Rhodes framework for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility Strategies (IDEAS).

Before his time at Rhodes, Dr. Rose served as an administrative fellow in the Office of Enrollment Services and the Office of Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging at the Harvard Kennedy School at Harvard University, where he enhanced the school’s recruitment of underrepresented groups.  Additionally, Dr. Rose was an associate professor of political science and director of the Africana Studies program at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. 

Dr. Rose has a Ph.D. in government from the University of Virginia. He received his M.A. in political science from Baylor University and has a B.A. in political science from Rutgers University.

 

Dean, College of Arts & Sciences

The Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences provides leadership and works in collaboration with faculty and students to sustain effective teaching and learning, review and manage the College curriculum, and promote faculty development with the undergraduate programs of the College.  This role has oversight responsibilities in the faculty review process and is responsible for management of the College budget.  The dean coordinates a range of academic support needs and represents the College in University-wide academic policy decisions and serves on the President’s Cabinet.
