About Jose de Jesus Rodriguez
Jose de Jesus (Jesus) Rodriguez, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist who began working at the University of Redlands Counseling Center in 2022. He received his Ph.D. from the combined program in Clinical, Counseling, and School Psychology at Utah State University in 2006. As a graduate student, he worked at the USU Counseling Center for 3 years providing individual therapy and psychological assessment services to students. In addition to his appointment at the University of Redlands, he has held a full-time staff psychologist position for the past 15 years at a local state hospital for individuals who suffer from a severe mental illness and have committed a serious crime. His job at the state hospital consists of providing individual therapy, group therapy, psychological assessment, and crisis management. His approach to individual therapy is based on the belief that all humans have an innate tendency toward positive self-development, but difficult life experiences move us off this positive trajectory and keep us stuck in undesirable places. He sees his primary role as helping clients find solutions to problems, as well as relief of symptoms produced by those problems. He accomplishes this by creating an atmosphere of acceptance and understanding where the person is able to explore and better understand difficult aspects of their lives.
