The coastal beauty and rural landscapes of Spain will be our classroom as we explore how business is conducted sustainably in this stunning European region. We will travel from historic and quirky Barcelona, to Spain’s 2024 “green capital” of Valencia, to a rural farm stay, and finally to the business capital of Madrid. The goal is to discover the ways imagination and entrepreneurship combine to shape sustainable futures in the changing business landscape. We will see up-close practices in sustainability at an eco-farm in the countryside, hear from leaders at a Barcelona-based sustainability incubator, conduct field studies in Valencia, and network with entrepreneurs focused on positive social impact in Madrid.

This course combines pre-travel virtual class sessions with overseas seminars, company / organization visits, and cultural immersion. The primary focus of this travel course to Spain will be sustainable and inclusive business practices. What sustainable business issues and prospects for inclusive design are particularly relevant for Spain? What are the strengths and weaknesses of industries in this region? What will the future hold? What can businesses outside of the regions studied (e.g. U.S. businesses) learn and do to build sustainable and inclusive practices?
